NY Coin Silver Tea Set, Baldwin Gardiner, Cox & Clark

New York Coin Silver five (5) piece Tea Service, comprised of two tea pots, double handled sugar bowl with lid, creamer, and large waste bowl, all of circular lobed and footed form with bands of cornucopia and floral repousse decoration at rims and/or shoulders, below bodies, and around feet; the lids with finials in the form of flower baskets. One pot is marked B. GARDINER / NEW YORK in banners (Baldwin Gardiner, working New York c. 1827-1838); all remaining pieces marked J & I COX & CLARK in banners, with some additionally marked NEW YORK (for John and James Cox and __ Clark, working New York 1831-1833). Gardiner pot is not monogrammed; all other pieces monogrammed RS AW in engraved script. Note: the two pots are identical in pattern except for the lids and handles. (During this period in the United States, it was not unusual for pieces of a tea set to be purchased independently of each other, with some retailers purchasing wares from silversmiths and stamping their own names on the pieces.). Circa 1830. Ranging in size from 7" H x 7 5/8" W x 4 3/4" D to 10 3/4" H x 13" W x 7" D. 140.910 total troy ounces.

Condition Report: Rim of sugar bowl is slightly dented and lid does not fit securely. 3/4" dent to side of monogrammed teapot, across monogram. Scattered other minor dents and scratches; overall the set is in very good condition.
