NY Mayors Archive of Signed Appointments (2), a TLS, and Ten Checks

A fantastic archive of signed documents by New York mayors, dating from 1792 to 1941. The group includes ten signed checks, two signed appointments, one typed letter signed, and one legal document. Descriptions are as follows:

1. Dewitt Clinton DS. 1p, Albany, New York, dated October 20, 1827. Signed "Dewitt Clinton", appointing Robert M. Hartley a Captain in the 97th Regiment of Infantry.
2. Fiorello La Guardia TLS. 1p, New York, dated September 18, 1941. Signed "F La Guardia", addressed to J. Arthur Adler, thanking him for his confidence in the administration and encouraging him to get people to register and vote. Together with a photograph of Mayor LaGuardia smoking a cigar with former mayor Jimmy Walker and actor George Jessel, dated November 16, 1939.
3. Richard Varick Legal Document. 1p, New York, dated May 26, 1792. An order to bring Robert, George, and James Murray, with John Wheaton, to answer a charge of Trespass and pay £650 in damages. Unsigned.
4. Ambrose Kingsland Statement Signed. 1p, New York, dated January 8, 1852. A sworn statement by John Helms, as constable for the 12th Ward. Witnessed and signed by Kingsland.
5. Check No. 472, for $58.51. New York, dated April 16, 1832. Signed "Walter Bowne" to Robert Pettigrew for repairing a section of Greenwich street.
6. Check No. 248, for $3.39. New York, dated January 16, 1879. Signed "Edward Cooper" to Margaret McKay refunding taxes paid in error.
7. Check No. 36, for $1126.75. New York, dated June 2, 1817. Signed "John Radcliff" to Norris & Anderson for a watch.
8. Check No. 2219, for $307.65. New York, dated December 9, 1859. Signed "DF Tiemann" to the proprietors of the Commercial Advertiser for ads for the Assessors.
9. Check No. 6679, for $26.57. New York, dated December 14, 1850. Signed "C.S. Woodhull" to Jane Betts Hanson for a Rev. Bond.
10. Check No. 5574, for $105. New York, dated November 20, 1865. Signed "C. G. Gunther" to E.H. Lawrence for services and rent in registration of voters.
11. Check No. 3986, for $376.14. New York, dated August 29, 1868. Signed "Thomas Coman Act." to Joseph B Young for contingent expenses for the Board of Supervisors.
12. Check No. 3861, for $925.59. New York, dated October 13, 1869. Signed "A Oakey Hall" to P.C. Murray for extending and copying 1st roe 12th Ward.
13. Check No. 2812, for $26.00. New York, dated August 30, 1862. Signed "George Opdyke" to Elizabeth Burns for cleaning the rooms of the Court of Common Pleas.
14. Check No. 1063, for $199.21. New York, dated May 21, 1827. Signed "Wm Paulding" to Abraham Leggete for labor.

Most of the group has flattened folds. Varying degrees of toning, and soiling. The checks all have cancellation cuts or stamps. A few pieces have small tears and chipping in places. Overall very good.
