Namikawa style fine pair of large 1870s cloisonne vases with samurai decoration. Fine quality black ground with brocade and moth borders. Gold and silver wire. One vase with an elaborately dressed samurai in a landscape; the other vase with elaborately dressed samurai wearing armor along with a bowing attendant in a landscape. Gilt rims. As Namikawa Yasuyuki was a former samurai and was known for creating the black ground cloisonne, these vases could be attributed to him. One base with slight dent. One vase with a shallow thin line scratch about 3in long and a couple small scratches in the black ground between grass decoration. 14in high. 7in wide.
