Bacchus Discovering Ariadne in Naxos

This large format work is similar to a depiction of the same subject by Luca Giordano in Verona (Museo di Castelvecchio, inv. no. 2680). Whilst the figure of Venus in Giordano's version reflects the figure in Titian's version of this subject in the Prado, that of the present work is less similar, although the figure of Bacchus is similar in composition and colouring, especially the pale lilac of the flourishing cloak.
