Rare document signed by Napoleon - and by Talleyrand - three weeks after the Coup d'Etat of 18 Brumaire. Bonaparte appoints Pierre-Paul Thedenat as deputy commissioner of commercial relations of the French Republic in Savona, Italy:
"The First Consul of the Republic having appointed Citizen Pierre-Paul Thedenat to the position of Deputy Commissioner of Commercial Relations of the French Republic in Savona orders him to go without delay to his destination to exercise, in accordance with the laws, the functions which are entrusted to him. Instructs merchants, captains, masters, in the capacity given to him in the name of the French people, to report to him the destination of the navigation of their vessels, and everything that may interest the service for which he is responsible [. . .] ”. Bonaparte also asks the Ligurian government to recognize Pierre-Paul Thedenat in his new functions, “so that he can freely exercise his functions, without any disturbance or impediment. »
The document is signed by Napoleon Bonaparte (autograph signature) as well as by Talleyrand as Minister of External Relations, and by Hugues-Bernard Maret as Secretary of State.
Trace of wax seal.
The Ligurian Republic (former Republic of Genoa) became a satellite state of France from 1797 under pressure from the conqueror Bonaparte, who made it a sister Republic, modeled on the French Republic.
The meeting of the signatures of Bonaparte and Talleyrand is particularly rare.
