Antique document handwritten in archaic Portugese, Manifesto d' El Rei d' Espanha Contra Portugal, em 27 de Fevreiro de 1801 ("Proclamation of the King of Spain Concerning Portugal, 27 February 1801"). Eight pages, six with handwriting. The first page refers to "Republica Franceza" ("French Republic"), and alludes to the "Plenipotenciario em Paris" ("Ambassador in Paris"). Produced during the reign of King Charles IV of Spain (1748-1819), who was forced to abdicate by Napoleon Bonaparte; his reign is considered a major turning point in Spanish history. Good to fair antique condition, with wear and minor loss to edges of pages commensurate with age. Measures 8 1/2 in. x 6 1/2 in.
