[ translate ]

Property from a Private Collection, Europe
Man Ray
1890 - 1976
Narcisse

inscribed with the artist's monogram and numbered 4/8
bronze
Height (not including base): 38.5cm., 15¼in.
Cast in bronze by the Fratelli Barberis Foundry and published by Il Fauno, Turin in 1971 in an edition of 8 plus 2 artist's proofs.

Andrew Strauss and Timothy Baum of the Man Ray Expertise Committee have confirmed the authenticity of this work and that the edition of this work will be included in the Catalogue of Objects & Sculptures of Man Ray, currently in preparation.

Condition Report:
Bronze with mottled gold patina. There is a repaired horizontal break (which probably occurred during the casting process) to each of the figure's ankles. There are some surface inconsistencies, including small holes (which are superficial and not structural) to the back of the figure's proper right calf. There are some light surface scratches and minor patina wear in places, consistent with age and handling. This work is in overall good and stable condition.

Provenance:

Private Collection, Europe (purchased at the above sale)
Thence by descent to the present owners
