"Narcissus at the Fountain" - a rare mythological Antwerp tapestry, probably after Mortlake cartoons - Wool - Mid 17th century
- Antwerp tapestry. Due to proximity to England at the time, the cartons were probably due to a series from the Royal Mortlake Tapestry Manufacture. The modelling of the figures, the vegetal richness, and the architectures correspond to an Anglo-Dutch model, under the postulates of the Marot baroque, rather than to the productions of Beauvais or Gobelins. - The tapestry reproduces the myth of Narcissus, observed by Echo and his maiden, as he admires his reflection in a fountain. - Private collection in Toulouse. - MEASURES: 236 x 162 cm - In good condition. Edging changed and with linen cloths attached to the back for conservation reasons. - Shipping costs are indicative and in some cases, depending on circumstances beyond the seller’s control, might change. - The seller is not responsible for any damage that may occur during shipping. It is advisable to contact us after the purchase of any item.
