Narino Pottery Seated Female Figure

[ translate ]

**Originally Listed At $800**

Pre-Columbian, Ecuador/Colombia, Carchi-Narino region, ca. 750 to 1500 CE. A rare, fascinating, ceramic sculpture of a seated coca chewer. She sits with her legs straight out ahead of her, dressed in a geometrically-patterned, floor-length skirt, with only her feet peeking out from underneath it. She has her hands resting on her hips and leans forward slightly. Her face is painted with a single straight line across the top of her upper lip, perhaps representing a tattoo. Her hair is depicted as a smooth sheet, painted black, that flows down from her head to rest upon her shoulders. Her mouth is pursed and her eyes bulge, giving her a startled expression. Size: 4" W x 6.15" H (10.2 cm x 15.6 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Hans Juergen Westermann collection, Germany, collected from 1950-1960s

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
