Native Copper & Copper in Calcite Michigan, USA "A cluster of bright copper filled calcite crystals to about 1.5 inches with copper growing out of the calcite crystals in places. Traded from Bryn Mawr with Harold Arndt. The specimen was part of the George Vaux collection." - Rock H. Currier Besides wonderful Copper and Silver specimens, the Upper Peninsula Copper District was notable for an occasional specimen of Native Copper with water-clear Calcite scalenohedrons enclosing portions of the underlying Copper. Where the Calcite covered the Copper, its luster remains bright and untarnished, as can be seen here. And yes, it's another specimen from the Vaux Collection. According to the notes on the back of the Vaux label, this specimen was added into the collection in 1896. Accompanied by a custom acrylic base and the original Vaux label. Overall Measurements: 4.3 x 3.1 x 1.2 inches (11.0 x 8.0 x 3.0 cm) Offered at no reserve Provenance: Ex. Bryn Mawr College, Ex.
