Native Copper in Calcite Michigan, USA "Sharp copper included scalenohedral calcite crystals with included copper growing perched up on a piece of matrix. The calcite crystals are golden in color because of the copper inside of them and measure up to 2 inches in diameter. This is one of the best ones in existence. This specimen was originally in the collection of Percy Foster of Los Angeles and was then for years in the collection of The Hamels. I saw it in Gene [sic] Hamels collection and fell in love with it. When her collection was sold piecemeal by Scott Williams I asked after the specimen, both he and Ann his daughter said they never saw it. After about three years of hauling off station wagon loads and trailers full of specimen and still no calcite I had just about given up hope of ever seeing it again. Then one day out of the blue I get a letter in the mail with a picture of the piece from Ann Williams. I asked her what the price was and she said "I have no idea" and ask what I thought it was worth. I said I thought perhaps $2500 and she said well I was thinking $3500 and I said that was possible if the piece was as good as I remembered it. It came and I paid her the $3500. She later told me that the sister had taken home several boxes of specimens "For the family to look over." Later yet, I was asked by the family to clean out what was left of the estate. I spent 8 working days with a crew of 4 guys cleaning out the place. We removed 16 van loads of stuff, minerals, specimen cases etc. I paid about $1500 for the privilege of doing so." -Rock H. Currier It's really good. It has a custom base. Overall Measurements: 3.5 x 3.5 x 2.4 inches (9.0 x 9.0 x 6.0 cm) Offered at no reserve Provenance: Ex. Jean Hamel Ex. Percy Foster Collections [RHC #6848, acquired 2000] [Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
