Native Silver & Calcite Kongsberg Ag Mining District,...

[ translate ]

Native Silver & Calcite Kongsberg Ag Mining District, Kongsberg, Buskerud, Norway "A four inch cluster of heavy intertwined silver wires growing on calcite. Traded this specimen from the Theodore Rand collection at Bryn Mawr College near Philadelphia when Harold Arndt was still curator." - Rock H. Currier Another classic from the Bryn Mawr Collection, but this time not a Vaux piece, but rather one that passed through the hands of both collector: Theodore Rand, and dealer: A. Krantz of Berlin; the manufacturer of all those wooden crystal models that we have come to love. Kongsberg Silvers are easily one of the top 5 minerals in terms of collector recognition and desirability. The one offered here has all the bells and whistles: massive, not wispy, "wires" on a Calcite matrix, sinuous form of the wires, great provenance, etc., etc., etc. Need we say more? Oh yes, there's also a custom acrylic base. Overall Measurements: 3.1 x 3.1 x 2.0 inches (8.0 x 8.0 x 5.0 cm) Provenance: Ex. Bryn Mawr College, Ex. Theodore Rand (purchased from A. Krantz) Collections [RHC #5209, acquired 1988] [Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
