Nature morte au pot jaune, Georges Braque

[ translate ]

Property from an Important Private European Collection
Georges Braque
1882 - 1963
Nature morte au pot jaune

signed G Braque (lower left)
oil on burlap
65.5 by 80.8cm., 25¾ by 31¾in.
Framed: 81.7 by 95.5cm., 32¼ by 37⅝in.
Painted in 1945 and 1962.

Condition Report:
The burlap is laid down on canvas, most probably by the artist. Inspection under UV light reveals no obvious signs of retouching but shows some areas fluorescence which could possibly be attributable to the artist revisiting the work in 1962. There are some slightly raised lines of craquelure in places, most prominently to the black and mauve pigments to the left part of the upper right quadrant. There is an accretion just to the right of the glass. This work is in overall good condition.

Condition 11 of the Conditions of Business for Buyers (Online Only) is not applicable to this lot.

Provenance:
Galerie Maeght, Paris (acquired from the artist between 1962 and 1966)
Perls Galleries, New York (acquired from the above in 1968)
Sale: Christie's, New York, 10th November 1999, lot 643
Purchased at the above sale by the present owner
