Nayarit Chinesco Seated Figure - Elderly Male

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, Chinesco type, Protoclassic Period, ca. 100 BCE to 250 CE. A hand-built pottery figure seated with bent legs and arms stacked atop the knees. The beige-skinned figure is decorated with applied red tattooing across the face and upper body, and a petite knob emanated from above the coiffure. Coffee bean eyes surrounded by dark circles, a slender nose, thin lips, and pierced ears comprise the expressive countenance that - combined with the mildly hunched back - lends to the idea of this depicting an individual of relatively advanced age. Condition Report: Professionally repaired with restoration to areas of lower legs, arms, and head, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Minor abrasions and fading to original pigment, with light earthen deposits, otherwise in nice condition. Great preservation to figural form.
