Nayarit Pottery Dog Effigy Vessel w/ Human Face

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Nayarit, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. An intriguing, hollow-built pottery effigy vessel of a dog exhibiting a human head. Highly burnished and decorated with dark red-brown pigment atop the russet-hued body, the creature presents standing atop a quartet of conical legs and has a perky tail and a tapered neckline. The human visage features downcast ovoid eyes, a perky nose, perforated ear ornamentation, and full lips above a masculine jaw, all beneath a broad brow and a pair of curling canine 'ears.' Size: 6.2" L x 5.1" W x 4.4" H (15.7 cm x 13 cm x 11.2 cm)
