Nazca-Huari Polychrome Standing Female Idol

[ translate ]

**Originally Listed At $850**

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca to Huari/Wari, ca. 500 to 700 CE. A hollow-form, polychrome female figure, depicted in the nude and standing on both feet (notice the painted toes), with her hands placed over her chest, perhaps a gesture of prayer. Also notable is her expressive visage with wide-open eyes, slender brows above, streaming tears below, a pronounced protruding nose, pursed lips, and tab-shaped ears, all topped by a long brunette coiffure falling to the middle of her back. A wonderful example from the ancients of the Americas, perhaps a fertility figure or a praying idol. Size: 5.75" H (14.6 cm); 6.125" H (15.6 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: ex-T. Misenhimer collection, Beverly Hills, California, USA, collected from 1970-2008

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

We ship worldwide to most countries and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience.

#150634
Condition Report: Normal surface wear with slight scuffs/scratches and minor pigment loss commensurate with age. Possibly repaired with restoration over the break lines, but if so, this was very well done and is difficult to discern. Felt pieces attached beneath feet. Scattered mineral deposits and nice burnishing marks.
