Nazca Polychrome Bowl w/ Abstract Faces & Linear Motifs

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca culture, ca. 200 to 400 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished pottery bowl with a round but stable base, gradually expanding walls, and a thick rim surrounding the orange-slipped basin. The exterior walls bear a top register of inversely corresponding spirals and steps, a repeating register of minimalist faces in the middle, and a thick white band zigzagging through orange and red bars, all above a solid brown base. Size: 6.875" W x 4.25" H (17.5 cm x 10.8 cm)

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex-private Hans Juergen Westermann collection, Germany, acquired in the 1950s to 1960s
