Nazca Polychrome Vessel w/ Dancing Figures

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca, ca. 100 to 300 CE. A hand-built pottery jar of a round-bottomed form with a narrow neck opening and a globular body that is painted with anthropomorphic figures linking arms in a standing or dancing position around the broad shoulder. The figures are painted in bright hues of burnt sienna, umber, orange, peach, and black on a beige ground. The figures are highly stylized with loincloths around their waists as well as simple linear marks denoting their facial features. The round yet stable base is left unpainted, exhibiting its natural light orange color. Size: 6" Diameter x 5" H (15.2 cm x 12.7 cm)

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection, 1995 to 2010; ex-private Hans Juergen Westermann collection, Germany, collected from 1950 to 1960s

Condition Report: Professionally repaired and restored from approximately 5 large pieces. The break lines are only visible from interior of vessel and are nearly indiscernible otherwise. Overpainting to gaps on exterior and nearly indicatable. Great details and vibrant colors.
