Facing to the left, Matthew sits at the writing desk while composing the Gospel. Raising his hand with his pen and placing the finger of the other hand on the place in the book where he is writing, he turns his head to the angel, who explains to him the meaning of the Holy Scriptures, listing the arguments on his fingers. The angel is also Mark's evangelist symbol. The light coming from the top left highlights the angel's heads, hands and one wing from the darkness. Oil on canvas, 19 × 15.5 cm
