Near-Miniature Greek Attic Pottery Lekythos

**First Time At Auction**

Ancient Greece, Athens, Attic, ca. late 6th to early 5th century BCE. A lovely wheel-thrown pottery lekythos - a vessel used to store scented oils and perfumes - of a petite size. The near-miniature vessel presents with a piriform body, a planar shoulder that tapers to a slender cylindrical neck, a thick flared rim, and a strap handle joining shoulder and neck, all atop a discoid foot. The body, rim, and foot are decorated with a solid, jet-black glaze as well as two reserve bands just above the foot, and areas of the neck, shoulder, and bottom of foot are unadorned. A compact and attractive example from ancient Athens! Size: 1.75" W x 3.8" H (4.4 cm x 9.7 cm).
