Near-Miniature Greek Attic Pottery Lekythos

Ancient Greece, Athens, Attic, ca. late 6th to early 5th century BCE. A lovely wheel-thrown pottery lekythos - a vessel used to store scented oils and perfumes - of a petite size. The near-miniature vessel presents with a piriform body, a planar shoulder that tapers to a slender cylindrical neck, a thick flared rim, and a strap handle joining shoulder and neck, all atop a discoid foot. The body, rim, and foot are decorated with a solid, jet-black glaze as well as two reserve bands just above the foot, and areas of the neck, shoulder, and bottom of foot are unadorned. A compact and attractive example from ancient Athens! Size: 1.75" W x 3.8" H (4.4 cm x 9.7 cm).

Condition Report: Neck and handle repaired from multiple pieces, with light resurfacing and overpainting along break lines. Minor abrasions to body, foot, and rim, with fading to original pigmentation. Light earthen deposits throughout.
