Contemporary drab paper wrappers, manuscript titles to spines, housed in a blue leather and cloth clamshell box. 7 x 4 inches (18 x 11); 214, 232, 230, and 217 pp. Sunning and wear to spines, with chips and losses mostly to volume I, remnants of a paper label to spine of Volume I, some soiling and ink annotations to wrappers, contents generally bright with some manuscript annotations and a few very occasional spots, wear to clamshell case, sold as is.

A 1797 edition of French financier and statesman Jacques Necker's study on the French Revolution. It was published only a year after the first edition and it includes an additional "Avis de l'Auteur," which states that the work was finished at the end of 1795 but indecision on the part of the author and difficulties with the bookseller had delayed publication.
