Necklace w/ Ancient Sumerian Red Serpentine Beads

Ancient Near East, Mesopotamia, Sumer, ca. late 2nd to early 1st millennium BCE. This is a lovely and wearable necklace comprised of several hundred ancient hand-cut and polished serpentine stone beads. The red serpentine beads are each a thick disc shape with burgundy and deep wine hues that have a smoothly polished and lustrous surface. The beads are gathered and strung together on modern wire as a 3-strand necklace with modern golden spacer beads at the tip, all made wearable with a lobster clasp! Size (necklace): 25.5" L (64.8 cm); (average bead): 0.125" L (0.3 cm)

Provenance: private Corpus Christi, Texas, USA estate collection, acquired 1960s to 1970s
