Neo-Babylonian Terracotta Female Plaque Figure

Ancient Near East, Mesopotamia, Babylon, Neo-Babylonian period, ca. early 1st millennium BCE. A mold-formed terracotta plaque figure depicting a nude female with hands cupping the undersides of her breasts. The woman presents with a stippled pubis between her thighs and accentuated hips. Her feminine visage is composed of large ovoid eyes, a slender nose above thin lips, and a neatly arranged coiffure with a pair of plaited bangs. Ample remains of red pigment embellish the minimalist presentation and imbue the figure with an alluring sense of beauty. Size: 1.3" W x 4.9" H (3.3 cm x 12.4 cm)

Provenance: ex-estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA, acquired before 2000
