Neolithic European Stone Axe Head (Time of Stonehenge)
Northern Europe, Neolithic period, ca. 3500 to 2500 BCE. Made around the time Stonehenge was being created in England, this is a lovely gray-green stone axe head in a form known as "thick butted". It features a wide, heavy blade sharpened on one end and tapering to a cylindrical butt on the other. It may have been used as a wood working tool and would have been ritually deposited in a grave. Size: 2" W x 6.2" H (5.1 cm x 15.7 cm)
Provenance: private Los Angeles County, California, USA collection, acquired by descent from the owner's father, collection amassed between 1950-1990
