1852 (Nov 8) cover to London "Per Formosa Steamer" with a very fine Sydney Views 3d yellow green/bluish SG 42 (margins close to large; Cat £350 x2+ on cover) tied by large-part bars cancel of Sydney (cds on reverse), London arrival backstamp of 17JA17/1853 in red & rated "2/2", light overall soiling. The first P&O contract sailing from England was on 4.3.1853. P&O conducted a series of non-contract voyages before then, this being the only homeward bound voyage by 'Formosa', ex Sydney via Galle, then Singapore (yes!) and India. Ex Dale Forster.
