New York Classical Figured Mahogany Breakfast Table, Attributed to Phyfe or Lannuier
circa 1820, highly figured top and D-shaped leaves, single flush drawer, apron with small pendant drops, ring turned and reeded drum pedestal, four downswept legs with rare brass waterleaf capped feet on casters, poplar and pine secondaries, 29-1/4 x 42 x 23-1/2 in., each leaf adds 10-1/2 in.
Provenance: Carswell Rush Berlin, New York, NY (accompanied by copy of write-up); From the Collection of Rob and Jane Hicklin
Note: The reeded drum pedestal, incised saber legs, and waterleaf castors closely match documented Phyfe pieces (see Comstock, figs. 566 and 590; Sloane, Antiques Magazine [May 1987]; Montgomery, fig. 409). Lannuier and Allison used similar elements, and waterleaf castors also appear on card tables now attributed to Lannuier (Kaufman collection), but the combination of features is most frequently found in Phyfe's work. (double check, summarized from receipt).
