New Zealand.- Wyld (James) Chart of New Zealand from Original Drawings, Third Edition, important map of the North and South Islands, with little information detailed in the 'thinly populated' South island, both islands with native names and some descriptions 'according to native accounts', with seven inset charts, including the 'Plan of the Enrrance to Port Manouako', 'Plan of Victoria Bay of Islands', 'Port Nicholson', 'Oyerri or Pelorus River', 'Plan of Dusky Bay', 'Plan of Southern Port', 'Stewarts Island', 'Plan of the Bar and Part of the Hokianga River', engraving with original outline hand-colouring, sheet 825 x 560 mm (32 1/2 x 22 in), dissected and mounted on linen, ink inscription in the upper margin detailing heights of mountains and noting 'The finest mountain scenery in the World', owners inscription in the upper left margin '[?]GWW Bellaird. 1849', some scattered spotting and browning, edged with green linen, folding with marbled ends, lacking slipcase, 8vo, 1846.
⁂ Very scarce, early edition of the so-called McDonnell-Wyld map of New Zealand, including early ink annotations on the mountain scenery.
