Nice Egyptian Bone Scarab Amulet

Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A lovely scarab of a petite form that is hand-carved from cow or ox bone. The scarab showcases finely detailed insectile features along the topside that include a striated wing carapace, a bulky shoulder, sinuous legs retracted beneath the body, and a narrow head with a petite frontal clypeus. The undecorated bottom exhibits incredibly smooth surface textures, and the entire carving is enveloped in lustrous, dark brown patina. Size: 1.5" L x 1" W (3.8 cm x 2.5 cm)

Provenance: ex-estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA, acquired before 2000
