Nicolò Barabino ( Genova 1832 - Firenze 1891) - Preparatory Sketch for the Altarpiece

The painting illustrates an episode of life the Holy Francesco del Camporosso ( kneeling right) , present to the Bishop of Genoa a mother and child by him miraculously healed. Francis of Camporosso ( 1804 - 1866) was Chief Franciescan - Capuchin to the Church of the St. Conzecione, know in Genoa for your charity toward the lowly called the Holy. The altarpiece probably would have to commemorate of him. Then beatified in 1929. Size : cm. 60 x 50 ( with frame) cm. 40 x 27 ( without frame) Frame : gilded wood frame. Provenance : " Babuino " Auction House, Rome , Italy. Period : 1867 - 1870Signature : initials bottom left : B. N. Niccolo Barabino was the Ligurian painter, he studied in Genoa, in 50s he settled in Florence. In this town his pictorial Language of realist historical matrix greatly reduces the influence of Macchiaioli, it comes into contact with. Receives several public adn private committees especially in Liguria. Looks like an eclectic history painter and experienced in the use of different techniques, from the fresco to the oil. Conditions : Painted in good general condition, visible small drops of color. Both sides at the top , bottom left and right on the hand height.
