Ostindia dinnerware set designed by Nils Emil Lundström (1865–1960) Manufactured by Rörstrand Sweden. Hand-painted wonderful dinnerware set. One tureen. With a notch for the soup ladle. Size: 30 x 21 cm and 16 cm high (including ears and knob) One sauce boat or gravy boat with a fixed dish and two handles. Approx. 18 cm. Six dinner plates, diameter 24. 5 cm. Six breakfast plates, diameter 21. 5 cm. Six deep plates, diameter 24 cm. Ostindia, proclaimed "Dinnerware of the Century" in Sweden, owes its existence to hidden treasures. After a ship, which returned from China in 1746, sank for the coast of Göteborg, part of the cargo somehow ended up in a cupboard at the Rörstrand factory. Many years later, in 1932, the wife of factory manager Knut Almström found it and spoke the famous words: "Knut, I think it is worthwhile to make something of this. . . ". And that was how a shard of Chinese porcelain became the model for an iconic Rörstrand design. The classic Ostindia décor has stood the test of time and fads well, and it is still popular dinnerware. Will be packaged with care and shipped by registered post.
