[ translate ]

59 x 69 inches. Some thinning. This double-sided patchwork quilt is an example of American vernacular textile art, constructed using cotton and cotton-blend fabrics. Side A features a "Nine-Patch" variation, composed of large blocks with a central diamond formed by a 3x3 grid of smaller squares. These blocks are set within square frames and separated by blue and white four-patch sashing and rectangular strips. The border is finished with a multi-colored striped fabric. Side B features a "Spider Web" or "Crazy Quilt" variation, utilizing irregular, elongated triangular and polygonal fabric scraps arranged in a radiating, kaleidoscopic pattern. The quilt is hand-stitched throughout with visible quilting lines. The fabrics include a variety of prints such as calicos, ginghams, chambrays, and florals. There are no maker's marks, labels, or signatures visible on the textile.
