"The Nobility of Life, Its Graces and Virtues, Portrayed in Prose and Verse by the best writers". Selected and Edited by L. Valentine, with 24 chromolithograph plates by various artists plus illustrations in the text and decorative borders throughout. Published by Frederick Warne and Company, London, 1869. The Titles, Flowers and Ornamental Borders drawn by P. Hundley. Engraved by Brothers Dalziel; The chromograph plates were designed by various artists. Colored plates engraved and printed variously by Edmund Evans or Kronheim & Co.

BAC: British Art Center has two copies, in variant bindings. Copy 1 has the bookplate of T.B. Johnston. Copy 2 has publisher's advertisements, [2] p. at end, and the autograph of Hannah Cooper.

BAC: British Art Center has progressive color sheets for two of the prints ("Duty" and "Dignity"; Folio A/N/141).

Condition Report: Embossed hard boards, original cloth decorated in black and gold [shelf wear, spine damages and repairs: see photos]; large format, 8.1/2” x 10.1/2”; dark green endpapers [creased at the hinges]; pen written on the half-title page “To Mr. A.A. Raynolds" the inscription is dated Christmas 1870; (ii), viii, 192 pages + 2 page advertising + 24 color prints on heavy paper [all plates are present] with identical heavy paper guards. The first few pages show some edge wear and bumped corner, all page edges are gilt, very good condition.
