Delve into the world of traditional Japanese theater with this exquisite vintage Kyogen Noh mask, expertly crafted by skilled mask maker Nakamura Fumio. This piece represents Kokushiki Jō, an endearing character known for his comical and charming role in Kyogen theater, primarily worn by the character Taro Kaja who is often depicted as a servant or footman.

Characterized by its distinctive deep black hue and rounded shape, the mask echoes the aesthetic of the revered Okina masks, a vital element in Noh theatre with a legacy stretching back centuries. A symbol of laughter, the mask features a joyous smile with deeply etched lines, evoking a sense of mirth and age. The movable lower jaw adds a dynamic element, allowing for a range of expressions during performances. An inscription inside the mask confirms its authenticity.
