Norbert Quinn (American, 1902-1987) From Morning Until Late at Night the President Reaches Repeatedly Into the Basket, Watch Out for Subs, and Potsdam, Boston Globe newspaper cartoons (three works), 1941-1945 India ink, lithographic crayon, and gouache on heavyweight paper 8-1x4 x 10 inches (21.0 x 25.4 cm) (From Morning Until Late at Night..., image) Two signed in lower region: Nobert Quinn; one not signed Norbert Quinn joined the staff of the Boston Globe in the 1920s and served as cartoonist, illustrator and sketch artist until his retirement in the 1960s. These three originals were published in the Boston Globe during the administration of President Franklin D. Roosevelt and shortly after his death. A larger-than-life, beaming President Franklin D. Roosevelt is portrayed at his desk in From Morning Until Late at Night... as office- and favor-seekers form a very long line. This original was likely published in 1941. Watch Out for Subs, published in 1943, humorously plays off a Globe report of January that a German radio broadcast claimed one of its U-Boats had penetrated 90 miles up the Mississippi River to within a few miles of New Orleans. A clipping from that story is mounted at upper left as part of the imagery. (image size: 10" x 7") In Potsdam, Mr. Quinn cleverly portrays the principals who met at the three great conferences of Allied leaders at Teheran, Yalta and Potsdam during World War II. It was undoubtedly created and published shortly before or after the start of the meetings at Potsdam on July 17, 1945. Joseph Stalin of the USSR was a constant at all three, and President Harry S. Truman took office upon the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt on April 12, 1945. British Prime Minister Winston Churchill attended for the UK but resigned his office and left Potsdam immediately following the victory of the Labour Party in the general election of July 26. He was replaced by Clement Attlee. (image size: 9" x 6") Quantity: (3) HID03101062020 © 2026 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved www.HA.comxTexasAuctioneerLicenseNotice
