Norman Cherner (American, 1920-1987), Walnut Dining Table and Six Chairs
Norman Cherner (American, 1920-1987), Walnut Dining Table and Six Chairs
1960s, for Plycraft, including a circular laminate top dining table with molded wood legs (29 x 41.5 in.), with one leaf (17 in.), and six side chairs with yellow naugahyde mounted cushions (30.5 x 17.5 x 19 in.), labeled.
Norman was shortly let go from Plycraft after designing his chair and told the design would not be used. He later discovered his designs being produced and sold by Plycraft under the pseudonym "Bernardo". Norman would go on to sue Plycraft and win the rights back to his design. The vintage set being offered here is an example of the time Plycraft misused Cherner's designs.
Additional high-resolution photos are available at www.lelandlittle.com
Condition Report: Table top with some haziness; leaf with warp; one chair's front leg with interior laminate separation and re-glue; overall finish inconsistency and scuffs from use; all appears structurally sound.
