North American NY Herkimer Quartz Crystals in Matrix

[ translate ]

**Originally Listed At $150**

North America, New York, Herkimer County, 500 million of years ago. A stunning display of quartz crystals within a matrix of gray stone. These faceted beauties appear as if they were caved and placed by human hands, but this is all mother nature and chemistry. These crystals are often referred to as Herkimer “diamonds” due to their naturally faceted shapes, however a true diamond in the rough is exactly that - a coarse, glass-like stone - whereas these quartz crystals are naturally shaped with 18 facets and double points. Calcium and magnesium carbonate sediments within bedrock cavities known as "vugs" resulted in these quartz crystals of stunning clarity. Within the vugs are additional glimmering gray matrices from the dolomite that also formed. This natural "pocket" with two almost perfect crystals is remarkable! Size of larger crystal: 0.75" L x 0.5" W (1.9 cm x 1.3 cm); matrix: 4.5" L x 3" W x 2" H (11.4 cm x 7.6 cm x 5.1 cm)

Provenance: ex-Stein collection, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, USA, acquired prior to 2010

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.
