[ translate ]

Property from a Private Collection, Europe
Paul Delvaux
1897 - 1994
Nu allongé

signed P. DELVAUX (lower right)
pen and brush and ink and wash on paper
58.1 by 79.1cm., 22⅞ by 31⅛in.
Framed: 94.2 by 117.8cm., 37⅛ by 46⅜in.

The authenticity of this work has been confirmed by the Fondation Paul Delvaux.

Condition Report:
Executed on cream wove paper, laid down on card. The left, upper and right edges are very slightly unevenly cut. The sheet is slightly time-stained. There is a small approximately 1.5cm-long repaired tear to the centre of the upper left quadrant, a very small area of abrasion to the figure's proper right forearm, and a few very light surface scratches in places. There is a small horizontal crease to the centre of the left edge and few tiny nicks to parts of the extreme edges. There is a small area of what appears to be some historic paper skinning just below the figure's proper right eye, which appears to have been retouched. This work is in overall good condition.

Provenance:
Suzanne Butouille, Brussels (wife of the artist)
Galerie Isy Brachot, Brussels
Galerie Willy d'Huysser, Brussels
Guy Pieters, Knokke
Private Collection (acquired from the above in 1993. Sold: Christie's, London, 9th December 1999, lot 548)
Private Collection, Europe (purchased at the above sale)
Thence by descent to the present owners
