Nukuoro Coconut-grating Stool, Caroline Islands, 19th century, zoomorphic form with wide, curved seat, a serrated piece of shell was originally attached to the front/head of the stool, and a split coconut is rubbed along the sharp edge to shred the meat, smooth, dark patina, ht. 13 1/2, lg. 20 in.
