ODESSA - Metallic Meteorite - 198 g - (1)

[ translate ]

Complete piece of great beauty, with a number of regmaglypts. Since the meteorite disintegrated upon falling, it is very difficult to find pieces for sale, as few specimens of this fall in Odessa have been collected A metal meteorite is composed, mainly, of iron and nickel. Actually, they are a piece of an asteroid core. In the differentiation process, when the asteroid is a ball of magma, during its formation, iron and nickel settle to the core of the asteroid, as they are the heaviest elements. After cooling, the asteroid metal core is formed. Through catastrophic collisions, the asteroid and its core break and the fragments remain in space, until a piece falls into our planet. They are estimated to account for 5. 7 % of falls. The crater was recognized by Daniel Barringuer, the same one who recognized the famous METEOR CRATER, in Arizona, in the late 1920s and the 1st Odessa meteorite was described in 1922. The main crater measures 160 m in diameter and 2 m deep At Expometeoritos, we take care of the dissemination, talks, workshops, analysis, classification and exhibitions of Meteorites. We are members of: .
- IMCA (International Meteorite Collectors Association) #8187 .
- Meteoritical Society .
- American Meteor Society All our pieces are certified and, if the value of a piece is over €300, we also provide its chemical composition analysis, carried out in our facilities by X-ray spectrography.
