Titles printed in red and black, initials printed in red, photogravure portrait frontispieces, colored lithographed plates after George Edward Lodge, Archibald Thorburn, and others, numerous photogravures and other illustrations, tissue-guards; occasional and minor spotting; one or two closed marginal tears to text leaves, minor toning. Original brown morocco, boards with double gilt rules, gilt titles to upper boards, rounded spines with titles and text in gilt, top edges gilt; rubbing to extremities.

First editions, limited issues. "A sumptuous production" (Czech). Other contributors to the volumes include J.G. Millais, J.E. Harting, Abel Chapman, F.C. Selous and Douglas Carruthers.
