The dial is set within a drum surmounted by a fire pot adorned with garlands of oak leaves; on either side is a lion’s head holding a cord in its mouth. The clock is mounted on a pyramid set within a frame of medallions, foliage, shells, and arcades; the dial, marked with Roman numerals, reads “… DE LA FOLIE MERICOURT No. … IN PARIS”
