ORIGINAL CHINESE INK AND COLOR FIGURE PAINTING BY NING ZHENJIANG TITLED LADY WITH MIRROR, 17IN x

[ translate ]

A beautifully painted Chinese ink-and-color figure work depicting an elegant court lady, rendered in soft washes and expressive brushwork. The artist captures refined Tang-style beauty with delicate facial features, flowing robes, and a graceful pose holding a hand mirror beneath autumn foliage. The painting is signed by the artist Ning Zhenjiang and includes his personal seal. A dedication and date are written along the left side, noting that the work was completed in early summer of the Bingyin year (1986). This is a fine example of late 20th-century academy-trained Chinese figure painting, displaying both traditional brush techniques and modern color sensibility. There are two vertical inscriptions, the left one is poetic. The brushwork is semi-cursive, typical for personal dedications. The left inscription, from the visible characters, reads approximately, “A single smile can topple a city; spring itself seems to follow her.” This references a well-known classical idiom describing a woman of exceptional beauty, beauty that ‘topples a city’. This painting, with frame, measures 17 inches x 28 inches. This piece was acquired from a Metro Washington DC estate., 17IN x 28IN (43cm x 71cm), LOT REF #25-1178
