[ translate ]

By Sarg, Tony
Sarg, Tony. ORIGINAL PEN AND INK DRAWING BY TONY SARG. Chicago: The Parents' Institute, Inc., 1938. The drawing, which is captioned "Little Bo Peep", measures 9-1/4" x 11-5/8" on a 13-3/4" x 15-3/4" sheet of drawing paper. The drawing features the aforementioned Little Bo Peep caught at a moment of extreme distress and unhappiness; witness to Little Bo Peep's emotional meltdown are a varied group of creatures including two song birds, a rabbit and a small rodent, all which seem to share a sense of concern for the young lady, and four sheep, all which seem quite amused and completely unsympathetic to poor Little Bo Peep's distressed state of mind. This drawing was published on page 72 of the November 1938 issue of Parents' Magazine illustrating a section named "Information Tests For Children"; Sarg was a regular contributor to Parents' Magazine all throughout the 1930's and early 1940's; drawing is signed and dated by Sarg on lower right; drawing is age-tanned with light finger marks. The condition of the drawing is NEAR FINE. Included with the drawing is a copy of the November 1938 issue of Parents' Magazine where the drawing was originally published.
