[ORNO] - Silver (0.800) - Poland - People's Republic of Poland - Bracelet with Natural Stones

Weight: 27.41 g
Length: approximately 19 cm
Width: 1.6 cm
A bracelet composed of six segments connected by movable joints. Each element takes the form of an elongated, irregular ring, inside which a round, light-colored cabochon of a milky white or grayish-white hue is set.
The segments are accented with small spiral motifs resembling stylized roses. The edges of the rings are decorated with rhythmic notches. The bracelet features a box clasp.
The ORNO silver bracelet consists of repeating, elongated links with softly rounded shapes. A smooth, convex stone of a milky-white, slightly opalescent color is set in the center of each link. The stones are set in simple settings that contrast with the linear border of the links, made of textured and rhythmically notched silver wire.
The bracelet clearly illustrates ORNO’s characteristic combination of structural and decorative functions. Its ornamentation is not applied to the surface but arises from the object’s structure: successive links, connectors, and repeating motifs of coiled wire create a regular, distinctly perceptible rhythm. The combination of light-colored stones with the cool sheen of silver lends the piece a calm, elegant character, while the textured edges and spiral details retain a distinct trace of handcrafted workmanship.
Compared to ORNO’s more monumental pieces, the bracelet is lighter and more refined, but it still draws on the same values: expressive form, a passion for silver, combining it with gemstones, and treating jewelry as a small spatial composition.

The ORNO Workers’ and Artistic Handicrafts Cooperative—founded in 1947 by Romuald Rochacki—restored functional beauty to war-torn Warsaw and beyond. The studio’s mission is embodied in its name, derived from Latin, where “orno” means “to adorn.” The simple and expressive forms of ORNO’s pieces were appreciated by both government institutions and individual customers. One of the most famous admirers of ORNO’s aesthetic was Joanna Chmielewska, whose ORNO coral ring became a key plot element in her crime novel *Boczne Drogi*.
