Acquaforte su foglio imperiale. Misure foglio 772x494 mm.; Inciso 704x440 mm. In alto al centro cartiglio sorretto da putto con il titolo, sotto ciascuna illustrazione una legenda. Lievi difetti sui margini, ma ottimo stato di conservazione.
Rarissimo foglio volante. Ogni obelisco è accompagnato da precise misurazione e da un testo esplicativo. Nel cartiglio si dichiara che le “guglie” sono raffigurate “con le sue giuste misure di ciascuna osservate, e registrate nel terzo tomo dell’Edipo del P. Atanasio Kircher.” Matteo Gregorio De Rossi, incisore attivo a Roma nella seconda metà del XVII secolo. Autore soprattutto di piante di città e di architetture, aveva bottega su Piazza Navona, era in concorrenza col suo familiare Giovanni Giacomo De Rossi, che aveva bottega a Santa Maria della Pace. Le due botteghe si divisero nei primi anni del XVII secolo.
Condition Report: Large folio, etching. Sheet 772x494 mm.; Engraving 704x440 mm. In the upper centre cartouche brought by a a putto with title, below any image the caption the names. Slight marginal defecs, very nice specimen.
Extremely rare flying sheet. Each obelisk is accompanied by precise measurements and an explanatory text. In the cartouche it is stated that the "spiers" are depicted "with its right measurements of each observed, and recorded in the third tome of the Oedipus of P. Athanasius Kircher." Matteo Gregorio De Rossi, engraver active in Rome in the second half of the XVII century. He was the author of town plans and architecture, he had a shop on Piazza Navona, he was in competition with his family Giovanni Giacomo De Rossi, who had a shop in Santa Maria della Pace. The two shops were divided in the early seventeenth century.
