Official Red Number NASA Photo of the Apollo 8 Moon View, PSA Slabbed Authentic Type I

Official NASA Photo of the Apollo 8 Moon View, from December 1968 , Slabbed by PSA as "Authentic Type 1". Photo size, 8" x 10", slabbed to 9.75" x 13.25". Near fine.
The nearly full moon as photographed from the Apollo 8 spacecraft at a point above 70 degrees east longitude. This is the first whole moon photograph from a point above the eastern limb. The terminator crosses the Sea of Tranquility between Apollo Landing Sites EI and E2. Familiar frontside features such as the Sea of Tranquility, Fertility, Crises, and Hector are easily identified. Features near the east limb as viewed from earth, such as the Southern Sea, Smyth's Sea, Border Sea, and the crater Humboldt can be viewed without extreme fore-shortening. Bright-rayed craters on the lunar far side, never observed prior to the Apollo 8 flight, can be located in relation to the other craters through the use of this photograph.
This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
