Ohara Koson "Moorhens and Iris" Woodblock

Item/Description: Japanese woodblock features grey moorhen birds and large blue iris flower. Artist signature and red seal stamp bottom left.
Ohara Koson (1877-1945) was active from the early 1900s to the mid 1950s and specialized in kacho-ga, Japanese-style paintings and prints of flowers and birds. He was particularly renowned for his woodblock print depictions of birds, animals, flowers and other wildlife. Ohara had a delicate touch, creating prints that looked like watercolor paintings.

Material: Wood block print framed under glass.

Dimensions: Image size: Height: 14 1/2"; Width: 6 1/2". Framed: Height: 15 1/2"; Width: 7 1/2".

Condition: Wear to frame. Art not examined out of frame.

Age: Circa early 20th Century.

Provenance: Private Estate.
