About the artists: Olgert Jaunarais (1907-2003) - Latvian artist. Was born in Liepaja. Studied at the Latvian University (1927-1928), at the Faculty of Architecture. Graduated from the Latvian Academy of Arts (1929-1936), landscape workshop, under the direction of V. Purvita. He worked at the Institute of Psychotechnics and Craft Selection of Testing Artistic Abilities (1931-1939). Secretary of the Artists' Union and head of the visual union cooperative (1940). Together with B. Dannenhirsch and A. Lapin, he took an active part in the processes of artistic life. He worked as an assistant in the department of drawing at the Academy of Arts (1944-1950), dismissed for formalism. Member of the Art Union (since 1944), from which he was expelled for formalism (then reinstated). Worked as an artist in the magazine "Zvaigzne" (1951-1959). He took part in numerous group (since 1934) and personal (since 1982) exhibitions. He studied Western abstractionists - P. Soulazh, D. Pollock and others. For some time he worked mainly in watercolors. A. Jaunarais was called the legend of 20th century abstraction of Latvian painting.
