About the artist: She was born on December 27, 1940 in the city of Horlivka, Donetsk region.
From 1955 to 1960 she studied at the Moscow Regional School of Art, at the same time she graduated from a music school in the piano class [1].
From 1961 to 1966 she studied at the Moscow Higher School of Industrial Art, after which she received a specialty - an artist of decorative arts. From 1966 to 1987, L. A. Sokolova worked as an artist of the Moscow Works of Applied Arts of the Art Fund of the RSFSR. [2].
Since 1976 he has been a member of the bureau of the section of decorative and applied arts, from 1976 to 1984 - chairman of the textile subsection and at the same time since 1981 - a member of the Ministry of Agriculture L. A. Sokolova was the Secretary of the Board - the Moscow Union of Artists from 1984 to 1987, the Union of Artists of Russia from 1987 to 2003 and the Union of Artists of the USSR from 1982 to 1992 [2].
In 1988, L. A. Sokolova was elected a corresponding member, and since 1990 she was a full member of the USSR Academy of Arts [2]. Since 1973 L. N. Shushkanova is a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR [2].
Since 1997 L. A. Sokolova is a member of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Arts and from 1998 to 2003 - Academician-Secretary of the Department of Decorative and Applied Arts of the Russian Academy of Arts [2].
In 1984, L. A. Sokolova was awarded the State Prize of the RSFSR named after I. E. Repin for the tapestries “Peaceful Space”, “Eternity”, “Morning” [3]. In 1986, L. A. Sokolova was awarded the honorary title - Honored Artist of the RSFSR [4], in 2001 - People's Artist of the Russian Federation [5].
Among the most famous works of L. A. Sokolova: tapestries - "Forest" (1967), "Dawn" (1970), "Meeting" (1972), "Night" (1972), "Music" (Embassy of Yugoslavia, Moscow, 1971), "Remembrance" (1973), "Autumn" (House of Science and Culture, Helsinki, Finland, 1977), "Holiday" (1977), "Russian tunes" (1977); curtains - a curtain for the cinema-lecture hall of the V.V. Mayakovsky Museum (1973), an intermission-sliding curtain "Music of the evening" (1975), an intermission-sliding curtain for the officers' house of Star City "Space" (1977), a curtain "Art "For the Ministry of Culture of the USSR (1983)" For Peace "," Halley's Comet "(House of Soviet Science and Culture, Warsaw, Poland, 1987). She died on May 9, 2003 in Moscow, and was buried at the Alekseevsky cemetery [6].
