About the artist: Nestor Kizenko was born in 1926 in the village of Bizh, near the village of Khoruzhivka, Nedrygailivsky district, Sumy region, in the family of a village blacksmith. The artist was born in a difficult historical era - he knew poverty, was a shepherd of sheep, had the opportunity to receive only 4 classes of education.

During the war years, he had to do forced labor in Germany. After that, he served in the army for a long time - in Bulgaria and the Caucasus. In Tbilisi, during his service in the armed forces, he was a student of the art course of the Tbilisi Academy of Arts, where he received the basics of art education from Vasyl Shukhaev[2].

In 1956, together with his family, he returned to the Motherland, settling in the city of Nedrigailiv. He worked in the district center of culture, where he taught children to draw, and devoted all his free time to painting. He exhibited his paintings during various folk holidays and folklore festivals.

In 2000, as a People's Master, he was elected a member of the Union of Artists of Ukraine. His paintings were exhibited at an exhibition in the city of Santa Barbara (California, USA) in 2001. [source?]

Jubilee personal exhibitions of the artist's works were held in 2006 in Nedrigailiv, Romny, the exhibition hall of the Ivan Honchar Museum in Kyiv, where 44 of his paintings from private collections were presented[3].

The master's paintings are kept in museums of Ukraine and private collections in Canada, Great Britain, Ukraine, USA, Germany. In July 2012, the competition named after Nestor Kizenka was held in Nedrigailiv, which was started to perpetuate the memory of the outstanding artist and support young talents in modern Ukrainian fine arts.[4][5] Viktor Yushchenko, the third president of Ukraine, is an admirer of the artist's works.[6]
